I really enjoyed reading about this technique, I'm going to try it out. It reminds of a like-minded concept from the book Lateral Marketing by Phillip Kotler called "Lateral Displacement" wherein you can essentially create a new market where YOU are the leader or innovator. It's an oldie but goodie and is geared towards marketing strategy, but it recommends using similar thought explorations like Substitution, Inversion, Combination, Exaggeration, Elimination, and Reordering to break the cycle of traditional thinking.
